Harshbir has been the Deputy Director for Satcoms & PNT at the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Harshbir was previously Missions and Capabilities Delivery Director for Earth Observation and Low-Earth Orbit Assets at the UK Space Agency. Harshbir joined the UK Space Agency in December 2018 to lead the Copernicus (EU Earth Observation) Programme. Through the UK-EU Trade Negotiations, Harshbir negotiated an agreement in principle for the UK to continue its participation in the programme. Harshbir has also worked as Director for Growth, leading on delivering the government input to the development of Earth observation, telecommunications and standards working through ESA, nationally and internationally. Over his career, Harshbir has worked across Whitehall leading a range of social, science, research and innovation policies and programmes. For his services to promoting diversity and inclusion in the Civil Service, Harshbir was honoured with an MBE in 2016 and won the British Community Honours Award in 2017. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).

Matthew has been the Deputy Director for Launch, SDA & ISAM at the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Matthew was previously Director of Launch at the UK Space Agency. Since joining the UK Space Agency in January 2018, Matt has worked as Commercial Space Director, where he was responsible for delivering HMG’s ambition of creating a safe and sustainable commercial market for small satellite launch in the UK by 2030, including enabling the first launch from Europe. Matt has also worked as Head of EU Exit where he was responsible for all negotiations and preparations for EU withdrawal, and subsequently led the UK Space Agency’s advice on OneWeb’s acquisition. Before 2018 Matt undertook a range of strategy, policy, and delivery roles in HM Revenue & Customs. Matt graduated from Southampton University having studied Economics.

Julie has been the Deputy Director for EO & Discovery at the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Julie was previously Missions and Capabilities Delivery Director for Discovery and Sustainability at the UK Space Agency. Julie was Chief Portfolio Officer at the National Crime Agency, leading on a Transformation Programme to deliver technology, estates and the capabilities to fight against serious and organised crime. Previously, Julie was Programme Director for the Gas and Electricity Network Price Controls at Ofgem, having set up Ofgem’s portfolio office and business insights function in 2014. Julie also led the portfolio at the Bank of England and worked across agencies of the Department for Education in programme delivery roles. Julie’s career began in automotive engineering, with 10 years’ experience delivering whole vehicle and research and development projects for Lotus Cars, and for Lotus Engineering consultancy delivering projects for clients internationally.

Professor Anu Ojha OBE has been the Space Chief Technology Officer at the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Anu was previously the Director of Championing Space at the UK Space Agency. Anu has worked in roles within a range of space and science organisations, including as a Director of the UK National Space Centre, a member of STFC Council and a member of the European Space Agency Human Spaceflight and Exploration Science Advisory Committee (HESAC). Anu previously led the UK National Space Academy which, since its launch in 2008, has trained more than 6,000 UK teachers, with more than 65,000 secondary, further education and international University students participating in its masterclasses across the UK and Europe and in China, the UAE and South Africa. He also teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. Anu was Principal Investigator for the Astro Academy Principia educational experiment programme conducted by Tim Peake aboard the International Space Station in 2016. He has worked with ESA as part of the team developing the high-level science strategy which underpins the agency’s ambitions for human and robotic exploration of the Moon and Mars over the next two decades and has also supported the Rosetta, Mars Express and SOHO missions. Prior to his space career, Anu was a Physics teacher, Assistant Headteacher at the largest school in England and National Lead Practitioner (Physics) for the UK Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. A lifelong lover of aviation, he is a current skydiver with nearly 1500 jumps and was involved as a skydiving and science analyst for Felix Baumgartner’s Red Bull Stratos stratospheric jump programme.

Craig has been the Deputy Director for Space Ecosystems at the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Craig was previously Investment Director at the UK Space Agency. Craig was Innovation Lead for Space at Innovate UK from 2014 – 2019, and then spent three and a half years in industry, working for SatixFy, which he helped grow significantly from an SME to a public company. Prior to joining Innovate UK, Craig spent 6 years at Airbus Defence and Space working on a range of programmes in both the science missions and downstream applications parts of the business. In 2010, Craig was awarded his PhD from the University of Leicester where he worked on the BepiColombo MIXS instrument, following a couple of years working at the European Space Agency in the Future Programmes group. He has remained active in the UK space community, leading the equality, diversity and inclusion work for the Space Skills Advisory Panel as well as helping coordinate the programme for the UK Space Conference.

Rebecca has been the Director of the UK Space Agency since April 2026. Rebecca was previously the Director for Space in DSIT. He is a Magistrate and a Judge of the Family Court. Emir chairs the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC) and is a member of the Remuneration Committee (Remcom).

Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Judith is a Nutritionist and the Irish regional representative with the Association for Nutrition. She has worked in public health and nutrition for over 15 years, including 10 years as the lead for Food in Schools in Northern Ireland, providing expertise and advice relating to school food and public health nutrition to Government departments. She was responsible for the delivery, co-ordination and evaluation of a programme of work to drive and implement all best practice guidelines, legislation, regulatory inspection matters, Departmental directives, and other statutory requirements relating to food and nutrition for all schools in Northern Ireland. She is now a service improvement manager with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, providing project management support and advice to strategic reform programmes.  In 2022-23, Judith completed the Northern Ireland Boardroom Apprentice programme and was hosted by the Food Standards Agency.

Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Mike is a former CEO of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland.  He has an MA and PhD from Ulster University, as well as an honorary DSc from the University, where he was a visiting Professor at the Ulster Business School.  He is a former Chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (global) and is an Honorary Fellow of CIM.  He is a past President of the International Milk Promotion Group of the International Dairy Federation as well as former Chair of its Standing Committee on Marketing.  Mike is a former Chair of CAFRE’s College Advisory Group.  He received an MBE in the 2016 New Year’s Honours for his services to the dairy industry.

Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Janice is an AfN Registered Nutritionist, Public Health (RNutr) by profession. Her education spans food, nutrition, and public health specialties and includes a first-class BSc (hons) degree from Ulster University, MSc degrees in Food Technology (Reading University) and Communication (QUB), and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Nutrition) from Ulster University. She is also a Chartered Scientist (CSci), and Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (FIFST), and Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH). Career-wise Janice has worked across health, education, government, and academic sectors. This includes research roles in the food industry (nutrition), public health (NHSSB), and sensory science (QUB), food technology lecturer (CAFRE), PHN practitioner in local government, and QUB tutor in healthy eating and behaviour change. Having worked in public health for many years within the domains of health intelligence, health improvement (nutrition), and research, Janice has gained substantial knowledge and experience in complex intervention management, practicing under a root-cause paradigm for sustainable behaviour change in populations. She has a particular interest in nutrition in the early years, and systems thinking approaches to tackling population dietary habits.

Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Lynne’s range of responsibilities are an indication of the breadth of experience she has within and across the world of education. Lynne is a former teacher, head of department, vice-principal of a large post-primary school, teaching fellow of Ulster University and Managing Inspector for Food Science and Nutrition, School Improvement, Pastoral Care and Safeguarding within the Education and Training Inspectorate.  Lynne’s principle interests are in educating children and young people to become well informed in all matters relating to food and in supporting them to develop as autonomous and ethically responsible consumers. As an Inspector, she led the development of the Department of Education’s Food in Schools Policy and Programme in response to Government concerns relating to escalating levels of childhood obesity. A strong feature of her current work as an education consultant is her focus on supporting schools in child-centred education, in leadership professional development and in school development planning.  Among the many key achievements of her career is that of being nominated by her pupils to the BBC for her ability to understand and to resolve complex pastoral issues in schools.

Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Ciaran grew up on a small beef and pig farm in Co Armagh, which he ran with his father for over 30 years. After finishing school, he went to study at the University of Ulster, attaining a HND in Applied Microbiology and then BSc (Hons) in Applied Biochemical Sciences. He followed this up with Pg Diploma in Business Management at University College Dublin. Ciaran worked across various food and pharmaceutical (human and veterinary) companies for eleven years before he joined Invest NI’s R&D team and worked as an Innovation Adviser to the Food and Life & Health Sciences sectors in NI for over 16 years. In 2025 Ciaran took up his current role as Knowledge Transfer Adviser at Innovate UK Business Connect, supporting academics and companies to navigate the Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme in Northern Ireland.

David Torrens - Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee David grew up on a mixed farm in Co Londonderry and worked as a vet in mainly farm animal practice for seven years, before joining the Department of Agriculture.  Here he was involved in the control of enzootic, epizootic and zoonotic animal diseases – dealing with Salmonella, bovine TB and Brucellosis, BSE, Newcastle Disease and Foot & Mouth Disease – and assuring animal welfare on farms, in livestock markets and at slaughter premises all across Northern Ireland.   David also worked in the control of animal medicines and growth promoters, and was at the heart of the development of Northern Ireland’s cattle and sheep identification and traceability systems and associated mechanisms for support of trade and consumer assurance for many years.  He has also been responsible for the Department’s delivery (on behalf of the FSA) of Official Controls in Northern Ireland meat plants.   David has an MBA in Public Administration, and after leaving the Department of Agriculture and Rural AFFAIRS ( DAERA ) he continues to be involved with the food and agriculture industries as a Non-Executive Director of the Livestock and Meat Commission for Northern Ireland, and as the Northern Ireland representative on the British Veterinary Association’s Policy Committee. David enjoys singing with the Ballymoney Male Voice Choir and is an elder in First Garvagh Presbyterian Church.

Cathal McDonnell - Member of the Northern Ireland Food Advisory Committee Cathal has been immersed in the Northern Ireland food industry for the past 20 years. He started out working on the family Quality Assured Beef Farm and has worked as a Meat Technologist at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise. He works as a member of the Senior Leadership and Strategic Team for one of Ireland’s largest Food-to-Go manufacturers and exporters.  He is a fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology and specialises in food safety, quality management systems, process automation and sustainable food production.  Cathal sat on the British Sandwich Association Management Committee and Listeria Advisory Committee which help set Industry Standards for product safety, quality, packaging and advises the NHS in patient feeding in hospitals.

Simon Century is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Housing Bank, having joined Homes England in 2025 as Chief Investment Officer. He is responsible for leading the Bank’s investment strategy and partnerships to accelerate housing delivery nationwide. Prior to joining, Simon spent nine years at Legal & General as managing director, where he built and grew multiple housing businesses across social and affordable housing, build to rent, senior living, and build to sale, as well as pioneering platforms for modern methods of construction. Simon began his career at investment and advisory firm TradeRisks and later at the affordable housing provider bpha, leading corporate strategy and finance. He is a full member of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, holds a certificate in investment management from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and has a psychology degree from the University of Liverpool.

Madeleine Alessandri has been Chair of the Joint Intelligence Committee since 1 July 2023. Madeleine was Permanent Secretary for the Northern Ireland Office from 2020 to 2023. Previously she was the UK Deputy National Security Advisor and Prime Minister’s Adviser on National Resilience and Security. She joined government service in 1988 and has held a wide variety of positions in the Diplomatic Service and in National Security in the UK and overseas.
